What to consider when designing a new bathroom

Bathroom remodeling can be both functional and enjoyable because you can easily make it look like a completely new and different room. However, you have to put a lot of thought and planning into this project. Here are a few considerations to help you determine how you would like to move forward with your bathroom remodeling project.

A Consistent Look

First, think about how you want the bathroom to look in general. Get ideas from friends and family it they have recently remodeled or look at sites such as Houzz.com for lots of visuals.  What colors would you like? Do you want tile added to the walls, floor, and shower? Will you need new storage space? If you want a modern look, western, or classic, that will give you focus for the rest of the project or if it needs to be consistent with the style of the rest of the house – these are all considerations. Don't forget to consider if you want to give your sink a new look too with a new vanity or if the sink will be replaced.

The Shower

Showers and tubs are one of the most difficult parts of the bathroom to update.  Perhaps the shower / tub are outdated and need to be replaced or maybe you can get the tub resurfaced which would save money.  If you are replacing, it’s best to use a contractor to manage and install the new shower / tub so you won’t have problems in the future.  You can also consider updating this area by adding tiles for easier cleaning or add a door to keep water from getting on the floor if you currently use shower curtains.

The Toilet

If you don’t already have a toilet that reduces water consumption, replacing it is a great place to start for your remodeling plan. Then you can save money over the years following the bathroom remodeling and provide a new, modern look for your bathroom as well.

The Little Things

No matter how much you spend on remodeling your bathroom, if the little things stay the same, it detracts from the end results. Such as faucets, towel racks, knobs on drawers and cabinets, wastebaskets, toothbrush holders, and curtains.  All of these little changes are essential to complete the project.

The right contractors can help you review your options and help you make the right decision for your project.
